On Mitt Romney’s Facebook page there were many posts from other people who tagged him that were very opinionated such as “Health Reform still a BFD” and others like it. His personal posts were much more subtle and often were just to inform the public as to where he would be that day or to provide encouragement to his supporters. Since this is a Facebook page supporting his campaign, he seems to be trying to target a younger population , however it is even still too ridged to accomplish this. He needs to realize who he is marketing to via Facebook and reorganize what he is putting on there.
Mitt Romney's Facebook page is very personal and opinionated. Since Romney does get the usual criticism for being less personal more competent, Romney uses Facebook to really engage a younger audience in questioning the problems of today. With that said, the audience is targeted toward a younger demographic.
But in comparison to Obama's Facebook campaign, Romney doesn't even come close to effectively communicating with a younger generation. Whereas, Romney has questions and statistics, Obama's page has a lot of illustrations and inspirational quotes which is something a lot of younger people look at and can identify with. Obama uses a lot of behind the scenes pictures of meeting with people, and talking about continuing his work to help unemployment and higher education -- which typically is something most of the younger generation is aware of most; thus we identify more with him.
Romney does have a lot of promotional videos compared to Obama, on his Facebook page. This is a positive effective strategy for his marketing campaign strategy. Most people would rather watch a thirty second advertisement and learn about a proposed policy to a problem, than spend five minutes actually reading the synopsis of the proposal. It is also a good way to paint a good picture of something negative Obama is doing. So in that one instance, Romney is effective more so in that area than Obama.
In conclusion, Romney does try to provoke thought but it isn't as personal or effective in reaching a younger generation. Romney needs to fire his Facebook management team, and really get in touch with what facebook is really used for. Communicating thoughts and ideas but also sparking conversation and inspiration. (Something Obama does very well). If Romney can reorganize his strategy on Facebook, more of a younger demographic will be able to identify with him.
The first thing I noticed is the amount of videos Mitt Romney has on his page. With me being the usual YouTube watcher, it drew my interest. I liked some of the videos Romney had. They were informal and were promotional. Another thing that appealed to me is that Romney spoke about President Obama in some of his posts. Some were about jobs and some about energy. Mainly they would be quick and something that would be easy to remember. Such as, “There’s no question about energy having gotten more expensive under this president, and part of that is because of his policies.” Doing status updates like these is a smart approach because it is short and the it really does make President Obama look bad. With our short attention span, that is something that could work for Romney. After comparing Romney's Facebook page to Obama's Facebook page, I would have to say that I like Mitt Romney more. I feel more in touch with the campaign and it makes me feel more confident Romney is the right choice.
I think that Mitt Romney's Facebook page appeals to my age group on a few reasons. The first, I believe is that he uses Facebook the same way the people in my age group does. He has a cover photo, he has pictures, videos on his page In his Facebook pictures, there are a lot of pictures of people my age working for him. It shows what he likes and what he likes is stuff people my age would like. For example, one of his favorite TV shows is "Seinfeld. He also said that American Idol is one of his favorite and that's a favorite for a lot of people my age. There are a few things I would add that could make it more appealing to people my age. First, it shows he's also on other sites but some of those are "old school" sites. For example, it says he's on "Myspace". I think he needs to research the social media sites that are "new school". Sites that people my age are using now. His cover page is not really that interesting for people my age. His profile picture is also not really appealing to people my age either. Most of his pictures seem to be more appealing to people older than my age group so pictures that appeal to my age group would be nice. Pictures of him with celebrities of my age group would be nice or videos of celebrates my age group likes supporting him would help to in appealing to us. Most of the pictures and videos is of him on the campaign trail and that gets old after a while looking at his Facebook page. It's a good page but it needs a little more work to appeal to people my age, I think.
As far as the official Facebook page, I feel that it connects to my age group. It also connects to many other age groups. I really isn't geared toward only one group. I feel it connects with mine in the way that some of the pictures on the page are of younger generations but as far as design it could gain some ground with better wording in texts. I don't feel that it is really up to date to relate. It does seem somewhat old fashioned. I do think he need to push more into other realms of social media. The little one line "bash Obama" attacks could use a little more explanation as to why he thinks that to really gain the attention of my age group. He does do good in the motivation aspect of the page as to deliver new hope but how for my age. In other words, what is he going to do to insure that retirement will still be around when its my time. With Obama seeming to come into this race really pushing his past term, Romney really needs to step it up on the social media net works to combat President Obama effectively. Overall, I feel that Romney has a good Facebook page and it is appealing to myself.
As I look at Mitt Romney's Facebook page I first notice his attacks on President Obama. This seems to be his main tactic for the page. It is direct and accusing. His cocky attitude has settled him at the top of the younger demographics. His use of Facebook itself is a way to connect to the younger demographic. Also with the extending use of Facebook by older generations, he is reaching them as well. Another way he is appealing to the younger demographic is the posting of pictures of young Americans volunteering their time to help campaign. I think that Romney's use of Facebook does appeal to the younger demographic. It is an easy way to communicate ideas and show their production of the election nears.
Mitt Romney's facebook page really connects to all ages. I feel like it really connected to my age group (18-24) and also connects to many other age groups. The page isn't really geared toward only one group, which is a really good thing for a page like this. It's hard to make something appealing to all ages and walks of life so his social media team did a good job making that happen. He should get more involved in other social media sites because I think it would help him out even more. Romney does do good in the motivation aspect of the page trying to show people there is hope within our country. Overall, I feel that Romney has a good Facebook page. Obama has really well made social media work also, so Romney definitely has room fore improvement if he wants to catch up to Obama.
Mitt Romney’s Facebook page is aimed toward mainly the Republican/Conservative class, as for my age group, I think that his page does a pretty good job. The fact that Mitt Romney’s Facebook shows pictures of him giving speeches, working with the community, and such portrays Romney as an active candidate and it shows he is trying to make a difference. Having pictures is a good way to prove Romney of his work, but not only the fact there are pictures, but there are some pictures that are edited and I feel that individuals in my age range like kinds of things like that. On Romney’s Facebook page there is a button on the top that says “about” and when you click on that, there are other links that say “Stand With Mitt”, “Obama and the Youth Economy”, “What’s Your Take”, and etc. that gets the supporters involved. I feel that the fact there are other little links that gets supporters involved is specifically aimed at my age range as well. I do not feel that “older people” would actually take a picture of a sign and post it on his support page or that an “older person” would take the time to fill out a survey that has no outcome or personal gain. Overall, I feel like it is very beneficial overall that Romney has pictures all over his Facebook in general, because it helps the population see what he is about without necessarily having to read!
If Mitt Romney could change his Facebook to be more appealing, I think it would have to be to make his about me a little more self-disclosing, like adding his favorite basketball or/and football team or even show more on his personal family. Other than little self-disclosing pictures or information, I feel that Romney’s Facebook is well organized and efficient.
I think that Mitt Romney's page has some good things that appeal to my age demographic: it has some interactive links for photos, videos, and an opportunity to sign a petition about Obama and the Youth Economy. The page looks like it was meant for the new Timeline unlike other pages.
I also have a few critiques. The first thing is his About section. It looks as boring as the stigma about Romney is! One of the biggest critiques on Romney is that he doesn't relate with people, that he doesn't have a personality. Revising his About section do some good in reversing that stigma. Also, I feel that there is too much negative on Obama. His page should be about him, not an Anti-Obama page.
First off, the fact that Romney is using social media attracts a young audience and is a good way for the younger audiences to learn about him and his issues. Social media and facebook are the most common places that young adults pick up most of their information and news since we use it so much. I really like that it is user friendly and provides some graphics that make it seem more "youthful" and interactive. The website is also written to where it is easy for anyone to understand the information stated no matter the age or level of education. Romney talks a lot about the economy on his page and his stance of the issues and what he would do to fix them. With college students graduating they are interested in the economy because they want to be able to get a job post graduation. I really did not like all the anti-Obama stuff on his page I found it to be classless and would rather hear what he has to say about the issues and not have to listen to him bash another candidate. I overall found this effective from my perspective and find it a great way to reach out the young adults.
Mitt Romney's facebook page is not very appealing to me. It good that he is using social media and it looks like it is to his advantage. Theres now his slogan all over it now and everything just reminds me of Obama's run for Presidency. "New" this and "New" that all sounds a lot like Obama's "Change" slogan. It could appeal to my age group in ways that it has links to provide better understandings of his views. Instead of past or outdated sources and picture they all seem to be fairly recent. Its a great tool to get your words and opinions out to everyone and the best part of it all is that it is free. To me his page looks a little boring and aimed at an older age group and not to a younger generation. He should not stop at facebook but go further into twitter and other social medias so that his name and beliefs can be seen and heard all the time. Comparing it to Obama's facebook page I seem to fall more on Obamas because I feel like he had more originality from the very start. Looking mostly at his photo Obama seems so much kinder and well rounded unlike Romney with his huge head and almost seemingly fake personality. A picture can say a thousand words and Romney needs a new "photog".
